Christopher Falzone
USA
Described by critics as a "brilliant and intense" young pianist "with a profound love and understanding of music," Christopher Falzone has received critical acclaim and numerous national and international awards for his piano performances and compositions.
 
He received the prestigious Gilmore Young Artist Award 2004, which is designed to single out the most exceptional of the new generation of pianists in the United States and was highlighted in a PBS television documentary of the Gilmore Festival. After commissioning Russian-American composer Yevgeniy Sharlat to write his Piano Sonata (2008), "dedicated for Christopher Falzone" (as a part of the Gilmore Young Artist Award), he gave the world premiere at the Tri-C Festival in Cleveland on December 7, 2008 A commercial recording was made and is expected to come out soon. Since then, in the last month, he has already given premiere performances of the piece in Philadelphia and Lansdale (Pennsylvania).
Mr. Falzone has taken first prizes in the Piano Competitions Bartok-Kabalevsky-Prokofiev, the MTNA Yamaha and Baldwin, and the Disney, and other top prizes in the Young Concert Artists International Auditions and Stravinsky Awards International Piano Competition. Most recently, he took First prize (gold medal) and Audience Award in California, San Jose, at the Russian Music International Piano Competition 2008 (June)
in February 15, 2009, he got Dorothy Merkord Memorial Award at the 39-th Corpus Christi International Competition for Piano and Strings in Corpus Christi, Texas
In January 4-10, 2009 he was a Winner of outstanding Virtuoso performance at Bosendorfer USASU International Piano Competition, Tempe, Arizona (Sangyoung Kim Award),
In October, 2008, he received a top prize and Prize from France Clidat for "Liszt Mazeppa" in the Parnassos International Piano Competition (Mexico).
This September, 2008, he performed in the winner`s marathon at the Busoni Festival and Competition in Bolzano, Italy, and also in Italy he took top prizes in the Valsesia International Piano Competition and in the International Edition Prize "Rodolfo Caporalli" Sulmona.
Other recent prizes include the III prize at the Enescu Competition ( World Federation of International Music Competitions) and Enescu interpretation Prize 2007, won the Wideman Concerto Competition 2007
Mr. Falzone received Award from the Davidson Institute in recognition of his musical genius and representing his life work as a concert pianist, chamber player, composer and improviser.
He has appeared on television and radio programs including Good Morning America, WUOL "Lunchtime Classics," PBS "Musical encounters," WHYY and NPR`s "From the Top." He also has been artist-in-residence twice at the Kentucky Center on the Gheens Great Expectations concert series.
Mr.Falzone began studying piano at age four and composing at age six. At age eight he debuted the Grieg Concerto with Disney`s Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, and this extraordinary case was broadcasted on national television.
He made his solo appearances with the Amadeus Synphony Orchestra in Monterrey, Mexico, the "Mihai Jora" Philarmonic Symphony di Bacau, the New Japan Philharmonic, New Millenium Festival Orchestra, Transylvanian Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, the Silicon Valley Symphony, the Richmond Symphony, the Hollywood Bowl and in Chicago to name a few.
Other recent appearances include solo and orchestra appearances in San Pedro Auditorium and Planetarium Hall in Monterrey, Mexico, at the Wroclaw Philharmonia in Poland, the Monteverdi Conservatory, Haydn Concert hall and Teatro Cristallo in Bolzano, Italy, in the Auditorium dell`Annunziata in Sulmona, the Civic Teatre in Varallo Sesia (Italy), The Petite Trianon Theater and the California Theater in San Jose, California, the Palau de Musica in Barcelona, Spain, the Cultural Center Conde Duque in Madrid, Spain, the Romanian Athenaeum, Radio Hall and National Museum of Arts in Bucherest, Romania, and the Academia de Musica "Citta de Pinerollo" in Italy. Also Mr.Falzone has performed at the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, the Gilmore Rising Stars Series, Avery Fisher Hall and the 92nd St. Y in New York, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Institute, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles California, the International "Virtuosi" Music Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia, the Ravinia Festival, the Banff Music Festival, the Swiss Embassy in Washington D.C, the Frederic Chopin Festival in Washington D.C, the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series, Millenium Park in Chicago, the Chicago Cultural Center, the Steinway Society concert series, and the Hilton Head Chamber Music Festival with Christopher O`Riley. Falzone also is an enthusiastic and dedicated chamber musician, and he was selected by Isaac Stern to perform at the Isaac Stern Auditorium in Carnegie Hall in 2001.
In May 2008 Christopher Falzone graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia with the Festorazzi Prize in piano performance, where he studied for five years with Leon Fleisher and Claude Frank and attended lessons with Gary Graffman
